Keynote speaker:
Mike Anderson is an award-winning teacher and the author of many books about great teaching and learning including What We Say and How We Say It Matter, The First Six Weeks of School, The Well-Balanced Teacher, and Learning to Choose, Choosing to Learn. An elementary school classroom teacher for 15 years, Mike now serves as a consultant working with teachers and schools to support challenging and joyful learning experiences for all students. He has presented at many national conferences including NCTE, ASCD, Literacy for All, and Learning and the Brain. Mike lives in Durham, New Hampshire, and can often be found jogging the trails of College Woods or pulling weeds in his perennial gardens. The Making of a Teacher |
Keynote speaker:
Michael T. O’Connor is the director of the Providence Alliance for Catholic Teachers (PACT) program at Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island, USA. In this role, Michael coordinates a Master’s secondary education track, teaches Master’s level education courses, provides supervision and coaching to the program’s teachers, and offers professional learning support to the program’s partner Catholic schools in the New England region. A former middle school English Language Arts (ELA) teacher and instructional coach, Michael received his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the Lynch School of Education at Boston College. His research interests include international designs of collaborative professionalism and writing, language, and literacies. His research on collaborative professionalism with Andy Hargreaves led to the publication of their recent book: Collaborative Professionalism: When Teaching Together Means Learning for All (Corwin Press). Teachers on the Move: Evolution and Growth in a Changing Context |
Keynote speaker:
Commissioner Jeffrey C. Riley was appointed Massachusetts' 24th commissioner of elementary and secondary education in early 2018 and began serving as commissioner on April 5, 2018. A Massachusetts native, Mr. Riley's experience spans urban and suburban districts and includes teaching in Baltimore, Md., being principal of Tyngsboro Middle School, and being principal of Boston's Edwards Middle School. In January 2012, Commissioner Riley was appointed superintendent/receiver of the Lawrence Public Schools. During his more than six years there, he led a team that brought major improvements by shifting more resources and autonomy to the school level, expanding the school day, increasing enrichment opportunities, and ensuring all schools had great leaders and teachers. Commissioner Riley lives in Boston and holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Pomona College in California, a master's degree in counseling from Johns Hopkins University in Maryland and a master's degree in school administration, planning and social policy from Harvard University.
