Overview of MACTE
The Massachusetts Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (MACTE) is a statewide organization dedicated to facilitating steady improvement of educator preparation in the Commonwealth. Our membership is comprised of nearly sixty private and public colleges and universities with educator preparation programs. We are also the state affiliate of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), which is based in Washington, D.C.
In pursuit of our main goal, we are committed to several objectives, but one of our main objectives is to maintain an effective voice for educator preparation at the state level of matters of policy, legislation, regulations, and other matters related to educator preparation and licensure. For example, board members are active in a number of statewide committees such as the Educator Personnel Advisory Council (EPAC), and the Teacher and Administrator Evaluation Task Force. In this and other ways, the MACTE Board is active at both the state and national levels to advocate for our member institutions in an effort to facilitate both policies and regulations that strengthen educator preparation in Massachusetts.
We sponsor two statewide conferences a year. The purpose of these conferences is to provide a forum for our membership institutions to engage with experts in the field of educator preparation and to present their work to an audience eager to hear about innovative and best practices statewide. Conference dates and themes are listed under the Events link.
The MACTE Executive Board meets on a monthly basis from September through June. The board’s membership is elected every two years. The board’s officers and directors, representatives from both private and public institutions, serve on a voluntary basis. The Commonwealth Teacher Education Consortium (COMTEC) and The Massachusetts Association of Early Childhood Teacher Educators (MAECTE) each have an ex-officio member on the MACTE board.
We welcome comments and suggestions. Contact information for all of our board members can be found here. Thank you for your interest in MACTE and for visiting our website today!
